Carthusia Perfume: The Best Italian Fragrance
May 22, 2015
Carthusia perfume, founded and based on the island of Capri, Italy, has captivated our attention as the most delicate and luxurious fragrance we’ve encountered across the globe.
Carthusia perfume is timeless and it is apparent that the classic beauty of Capri holds inspiration for each of the scents. Each fragrance bears resemblance to the enchantment of the island, taking cues from the landscape. By combining lively citrus essences and the sugary scent of the flowers with salty accents and sunny notes, Carthusia perfume has emulated the island’s charm in their selection of fragrances.
Their fragrances range from rich blends to lighter, unisex scents, providing a perfume and cologne to please many preferences.
The Story Behind Carthusia Perfume
Carthusia has a history very unique to any perfumery. While the fragrances captivate attention on their own, their story gives the perfume a charm that is more than just a product off a shelf.
Legend has it that in 1380, the father prior of the Carthusian Monastery of St. Giacomo was taken unawares by the news of the arrival of the Queen Joan of Anjou on Capri, and so quickly made a floral arrangement out of the most beautiful flowers of the island. The water the flowers sat in was not changed for three days and, as he went to throw them away, the prior noticed that it had acquired a fragrance unknown to him.
He went to the father alchemist who traced the origin of this scent back to the “Garofilium Silvestre Caprese,” a wild carnation native to the island. That water became the first perfume of Capri.
History, on the other hand, relates that in 1948 the prior of the Monastery discovered the old formulas of the perfumes and, by permission of the Pope, revealed them to a chemist from Torino, who created the smallest laboratory in the world and called it “Carthusia”, i.e. “Certosa”.
