Relsky is an early piece by Leonetto Cappiello, one of the most famous poster artists of all time and the father of Art Deco. This poster appeals to Vodka drinkers of any era, as the jovial, personable, full-bodied Russian and his bright red beard steers consumers far away from the idea of a cold, hard Motherland. Instead, it evokes a winter warmth—some would even say St. Nicholas-esque—as the jolly fellow is painted against a midnight black and blue swirled background. Printed shortly before the struggles of WWI and the Russian Revolution, the Relsky offers a fantastic little glimpse of a period long since passed.
