Printed circa 1935, this piece by Billy de Vorss is an early rendition of what came to be known as Pin-Up girls. Derived from early, informal artwork that praised women for their beauty, the Pin-Up as we know it popularized during World War II as artists like Billy de Vorss, Joaquin Vargas, and Gil Elvgren added elements of humor, role play, and sex appeal. Although a bit earlier and more subtle in image, this lovely lady still houses all the quintessential elements of the pin-up culture.
