These beautifully crafted wooden puppets are collected from a Bozo craftsman in Mali. The Bozo are known as "masters of the river", and their culture centers around their interaction with the Niger River.
Fatou writes, "After long hours of work fishing and hauling in nets, villagers come together to celebrate. Puppets are brought out, and competitions are held to find the best performers. Tribal history, customs and morals are taught through the puppets."
